Speaker: Dr. Gabor Banyai

Dr. Gabor Banyai is currently a postdoctoral research fellow at the Georgia Institute of Technology studying the underlying mechanism of RNA-templated DNA repair. He started his career as a molecular biologist at the University of Debrecen in Hungary and spent a year at King’s College London as an exchange student on an Erasmus scholarship. He earned his PhD degree in medical science at the University of Gothenburg studying the relationship between gene expression regulation and cell cycle. He published his findings in four peer-reviewed articles. Prior to his current position, he spent a year as a postdoctoral fellow at The George Washington University and Children’s National in Washington D.C. studying pediatric dysphagia and learning methods in the field of developmental neuroscience. He currently uses budding yeast as a model organism and CRISPR/Cas9 technology to study transcript RNA-templated DNA repair.

Sam started his career in farming as a hydroponics retail store manager. After forming 100 Gardens with Ron Morgan, Sam has been the lead designer for 100 Gardens' aquaponics installations in schools, correctional facilities, trade shows and in Haiti. Sam was the horticulture instructor at the Stonewall Jackson Youth development Center in Concord, NC and also currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Friends of St. Vincent's School for the Handicapped in Port au Prince, Haiti.

Clients include UNYQ 3D printed custom orthopaedic and prosthetic devices and Novartis Neuroscience. Previously serving as CEO for Combat Medical, General Manager, Biomet Bracing, Vice President, Orthopaedics and General Manager, Spine at Ossur, she has been awarded 19 patents and has published research in Spine and The Journal of Neurosurgery. Lisa earned her Bachelor’s in Bioengineering from Lehigh University, and a Master’s in the Management of Technology from the School of Engineering and the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Scott Pope, In Scope Ventures

Dr. Scott D. Pope, PharmD founded In Scope Ventures in 2017 with a deep passion for helping great people create the change they wish to see in the healthcare world.

Scott is an accomplished healthcare executive and intrapreneur with extensive experience starting and rapidly growing healthcare solutions into complex markets. Over the last decade he has worked with healthcare companies ranging from publicly traded to bootstrapped start-ups. His leadership skills span a wide range including go-to-market strategy, business development, and launch for technologies, consulting, and emerging intellectual property.


Prior to exiting clinical practice, Dr. Pope was the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist of infectious diseases at Atrium Health, formerly Carolinas Healthcare System. In this role he spearheaded formulary decisions on antimicrobial agents and was responsible for operationalizing new formulary changes for the large, multi-hospital system. Scott earned his PharmD degree and a minor in business administration from Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio. He completed a general practice residency at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital and specialty residency in infectious diseases/internal medicine/academia through Campbell University at Duke University Medical Center. He resides in Charlotte with his wife of 16+ years and their two strong-willed, energetic daughters.

Brief summary of professional experience: Ramy has over 15 years of experience in the financial services and technology industries with a focus on Innovation, Strategy, and Product Development. He has a passion for the ways in which technology can be used to improve people’s lives. He is a proven leader with extensive experience at both large corporations and start-ups. He thrives on the challenge of creating and growing a business.

Ramy is currently working on bringing his new company, Honeyfi, to market. Honeyfi is focused on helping couples manage their money together.

Most recently, Ramy was focused on bringing the award-winning Moven to world by identifying and establishing key partnerships with large financial institutions across the globe, as well as the strategic management of the US business. In this role, he has cultivated a $20MM global revenue pipeline, including keystone partnerships with TD Bank in Canada and Westpac in New Zealand, and developed the B2B product strategy to meet the needs and pain points of banking partners worldwide. Ramy helped build Moven’s US business from the ground up, including establishing the banking relationship, launching the initial banking product & platform, and instituting the Operations organization.

Before joining Moven, as a management consultant at Ernst & Young, Ramy helped found the Digital Financial Services practice. This new group advised FIs on strategy for online, mobile and social product development and customer engagement. Prior to Ernst & Young Ramy worked in Bank of America’s mobile and online product group, focused on leveraging the bank’s distribution channels to more efficiently deliver innovative products and solutions to customers.

Education: Ramy has his MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Kenan-Flagler Business school and attended Wake Forest University for undergraduate studies. Hear from the Chairman of the non-profit organization Queen City Robotics Alliance.  His organization supports multiple robotics teams participating in FIRST robotics programs and competitions. Kaiwen is also an entrepreneur and has his own consulting firm with over 20 years of corporate engineering and management experience. Kaiwen is passionate about helping communities to grow talents by mentoring as a role model and creating a hands-on learning environment. Together with volunteers in Queen City Robotics Alliance, the team has impacted hundreds of students and wants to reach even more disadvantaged and unrepresented youth.
